Ivy Tech Repeats as Men's Club National Champion
A last-second three-point attempt by Cornell's Kyle Dolby clanged off the rim no good as Ivy Tech repeated as the men's club national champion, winning 58-55 over Cornell in the final game of the 2012 National Basketball Championships at NC State.
The teams traded leads early in the first half, with the score tied at 7 and 14, before Cornell ran off 7 straight points for a 21-14 lead with 13:16 remaining. It was the largest lead either team would have in the game. Head coach Greg Leigh from Ivy Tech took a timeout to calm his team, which then rolled off a 16-6 run over the next 6 minutes to claim a 30-27 advantage for the Bears. By halftime, the lead for Ivy Tech was just one at 39-38.
Baskets by All-Tournament team member Austin Cagley and Skylar Renslow pushed Cornell ahead to start the 2nd period 42-39. But, by the 10:00 mark, it was Ivy Tech back in the lead by one at 49-48 following a free throw by Jeremy Bricker. Tied at 50, the Bears rolled off 5 straight points capped by a driving lay-up by Rodney Holliday for a 55-50 lead, its largest of the game. A Michael Hyland three-pointer and a putback by Will Scott rallied the Big Red to a 55-55 tie with 2:20 remaining.
After trading missed jumpers on both ends, a Cornell foul put Holliday on the line with 30.3 seconds remaining. He hit both shots for a 2-point lead. The Big Red had a chance at the charity stripe, but missed both shots leaving the Ivy Tech lead at 2. After a Cornell foul, tournament MVP Jamaal Pittman hit one of two free throws for a 3-point lead with 7.1 seconds remaining.
With fouls to give, Ivy Tech fouled Cornell on the inbounds pass just moments before Will Scott hit a three-quarters court shot that was ruled no good due to the foul. Cornell inbounded one last time and the ball skipped down to Dolby for a fall-away three-point shot at the buzzer that clanged off the rim to seal the victory for Ivy Tech.

Marquette Rallies to Down Delaware for Women's Club Title
Marquette rallied from a 6-point halftime deficit to edge Delaware 35-33 for the women's club national championship Sunday afternoon in Carmichael Gym on the campus of NC State University.
Clutch inside play by Delaware and missed shots by Marquette led the Blue Hens to lead by as many as 12 points in the first half. Marquette had chipped away at the lead, down to 6 at the break at 22-16.
Neither team started the second half hot offensively, with no scoring in the first four minutes by each team. Delaware broke through with a free throw by All-Tournament Team member Meghan Phillips at the 15:20 mark. The Blue Hens added just 3 more points in the next 7 minutes, but still held a 26-20 advantage with 8:30 to play. That's when Tournament MVP Chantel Newman took over.
Newman hit a pair of three pointers and combined with Kelsey Rajchel's two free throws, led the Golden Eagles on an 8-0 run that put Marquette up 28-26. After a Delaware free throw, All-Tournament Team member Erica Hartke hit another three to give Marquette a 31-27 lead with 3:30 remaining.
Sarah "Apples" Howie's three pointer with 38 seconds left brought the Blue Hens to within one at 31-30, but Hartke and Newman both sank a pair of free throws to put Marquette up 5. A three-pointer at the buzzer by Delaware was not enough as Marquette held on for the 35-33 victory.

NC A&T Wins Women's IM Championship
Elizabeth City State had won the first match-up of the weekend, a 36-18 victory over North Carolina A&T in pool play. But NC A&T won when it mattered most holding off a second half surge to beat ECSU and capture the women's IM national title with a 40-34 championship game victory.
NC A&T used tough defense to stifle the Vikings throughout the first half. The Aggies grabbed an early 11-7 lead and held a 4 to 6 point cushion through the first three quarters of the game.
Elizabeth City mounted an impressive comeback in the second half, pulling even at 27 on two free throws from Ayanna Wilson with 10:27 remaining. A three-pointer from Wilson gave Elizabeth City its first lead at 30-29 with 9:30 remaining. The teams traded buckets and a one-point lead until Tiffany White hit a three-pointer to give A&T a 34-32 edge. But, Mariah Powell tied the game on a jumper with 6:00 minutes left.
A&T's White hit a driving lay-up and added a free throw to convert the three-point play and give the Aggies a 38-34 lead with 3:15 remaining. Then A&T turned up the defensive pressure, limiting Elizabeth City's opportunities and keeping the Vikings off the scoreboard the rest of the way, in the 40-34 A&T win.
The Aggies' Tierra Thomas was named women's IM tournament MVP and joined by teammate Tiffany Williams on the All-Tournament Team. Mariah Powell was named an All-Tournament Team member for Elizabeth City.
